Outcry from concerned New Yorkers has led to the cancellation of the upcoming International Beauty and Cosmetics Show in New York City. The IBCS is the largest annual trade show for the cosmetics industry, attended by thousands of professional models, beauty shop owners and interested women. But there’s a darker side to the industry. Many of the hair care, skin care, makeup and beauty products are used to help prostitutes appear more attractive to prospective customers (johns). “Not in our city,” intoned Mayor de Blasio. Haha! Just kidding.
That would never happen. Banning trade shows for legal products just because that product happens to be used by criminals would be non-sensical and stupid, and people would never put up with it. You never see bans of trade shows for things like makeup, lawn mowers, consumer electronics, luxury kitchen appliances or pet care products. Yet time and time again, gun shows are targeted for vicious discrimination by nanny-state liberals. And this is despite ZERO evidence that criminals ever purchase firearms at gun shows.
In Del Mar, California, just north of San Diego, the 22nd District Agricultural Association has canceled all Crossroads of the West gun shows at the county fairgrounds for the foreseeable future. Crossroads usually holds about five gun shows per year in that venue and they’re pretty awesome. They’re big shows with 100+ vendors in attendance every time. Admission is cheaper than a movie and popcorn, and you can slobber over thousands of guns for an entire weekend.
But an activist group called NeverAgainCA was able to screech louder than lawful gun owners at local meetings, so now the awesome gun show is banned. Crossroads is suing the ag association, but who knows how that will turn out based on the California court system.
And again, banning this gun show to prevent gun crime makes about as much sense as banning a cosmetic show to cut down on prostitution. Criminals don’t get their guns from gun shows. Period.
How do we know this? We can use both anecdotal evidence and real science.
At the next gun show you attend – assuming that you don’t live in Del Mar – take a look around at the other attendees. You’ll see tons of middle-class white guys grinning live a 5-year-old at Disneyland. Fathers with their sons, looking for that first hunting rifle. A few will even have their wives with them to help carry stuff. Oh, and several dozen undercover FBI and ATF agents. You might see a small handful of minorities at the show over the course of a weekend. And they’ll all be nervous and dressed up like they’re headed to church, because they don’t want to be mistaken for gang members.
You know what you don’t see a lot of at gun shows? Right. MS-13 members, illegal aliens, gang bangers, meth addicts and other assorted lowlifes. No gang banger wakes up in the morning and thinks, “You know what? I think I’d like to hang out in a giant building with a thousand heavily-armed guys who know how to shoot and undercover cops, where I have to show ID at the door just to get in.”
So, who are you going to believe when it comes to this issue? The lamestream media that claims that all guns used in crimes are purchased due to the mythical “gun show loophole,” or your own lying eyes?
Then we have real evidence of where criminals get their guns, which we find out after they’re dead or in jail. The San Bernardino jihadi, Syed Farook, and his mail order jihadi bride, for example, didn’t drive two hours to Del Mar to purchase their guns at the Crossroads show. They had a stupid neighbor straw purchase all of their guns.
Pro Tip: If your Muslim immigrant neighbor asks you to straw purchase a dozen AR-15s and 50 million rounds of ammo for him… something might be amiss! Likewise, the Las Vegas shooter (if he was indeed the shooter) purchased all of his firearms from gun stores where he underwent background checks, every single time.
We also have a recent survey of all of the Chicago criminals locked up in the Cook County Jail. Researchers asked them where they got their guns, and the crooks were surprisingly frank and honest. They pass the guns around with other gang members or have their ditzy girlfriend of the week who can pass a background check buy them at a gun store for them.
Zero percent of surveyed criminals purchased their firearms at gun shows. How many mass shooters have purchased the firearms used in their crimes at a gun show? We couldn’t find a single one.
You keep letting this happen, watch the rest rest of your rights start vanishing. We need to stop this now!

Good story. One comment, I have attended many gun shows in my 74 years and have neve had to show my identification.
It doesn’t matter how truthful, or logical, or factual our argument is, the anti-gun people will simply disregard it, and do their very best to demonize guns and owners. I don’t KNOW why it is they feel the need to disarm the American people, but, I suspect it has something to do with 200 million+ opponents to their idea of a New World Order. Or, maybe it’s just that they want to change our government from a Federal Republic to one a little more malleable to a pyramid, with them at the point, and the rest of us at the base. Our Battle Cry is “From our cold, dead fingers!” And we must stand firm in our resolve! And, we MUST stop all this infighting, where the Bolt Gun people hate the semi people, who hate the revolver people, who hate the Black Powder folks! There is no “gun show loophole” in California. With limited exceptions for certain licensees, every single purchaser of a firearm MUST undergo a background check and wait ten days for delivery. So that is one lie. Further, it is a fallacy to suggest that eliminating gun shows will reduce the number of gun sales. So that is lie two. The whole point is to paint broadly all gun owners as evil people who should not be permitted to hold their events on public property.
